Cold International Calls

Call Centre

I have Caller-ID.  When phone rings in the office and I see the “International” ID I know it’s usually a cold call.

Todays went like so:

Gent with a heavy Indian accent.

“Hi, my name is Mike. I work for a solicitors and we’ve been informed that someone in your household has been involved in a minor car accident in the last 3 years, is that right?”

I actually missed what he said so asked him to repeat the last bit, but Mike went for the whole script again.

“….is that right?”

Let’s get it straight….

  1. Your name isn’t Mike
  2. You don’t work for a solicitor.  You work in a call centre.
  3. It wasn’t a minor accident.  My family were all killed and it was only last week so I’m still pretty traumitised about it….

I didn’t actually say this to “Mike” but what if it were true?

More troubling is what happens when they get through to susceptiple people answering the phone.

A rip-off no doubt.

The people running these companies go on “the list”.

Sigh…
