Day 1 – Fitness & Golf Transformation

Day 1 consisted of mainly of working, eating and then trying to figure out what to actually do for this big plan. Here’s what I’d like to happen.

  • Currently I’m 15st. I should ideally be between 12 – 13st to actually be in the proper BMI range
  • I need a fitness plan to stick to. In the past this was not usually too hard for me when it comes to cardio. I’d jump into the trainers and start jogging, but now my knee is knackered and after an attempt at this earlier in the year it’s not an option at the minute so I need to be smarter. Swimming / Walking / some Gym work which I’ve never really done properly
  • Improve golf swing – increase distance and speed to bring handicap down

Fitness

  • Swimming – 3 times per week – work up to 50 to 60 lengths
  • Walking – 3 times per week – 4 miles per walk
  • Football – will only really manage once a week with dodgy knee
  • Gym – 2-3 times per week, beginners all round gym work for first month

Golf

My golf swing speed has always been slow. My driver speed averages about 92 mph and this really affects distance. My average driver carry is about 200 yards. I’d love that to be 230-240!

But how to do this. I think there are 2 issues to address.

Firstly I feel like I’m putting in a lot of physical effort to the swing, but not seeing the equivelant speed. This is surely due to some technique issues. No matter how much width and depth I get – there is only a slight difference.

Secondly my physical ability needs to improve, hence the fitness plan. I’ll slowly build up a base fitness over 2 to 3 months, then we may move into golf specific exercises.

There are more golf issues I’ll consider down the line :

  • clubs – my irons are almost 30 years old!
  • practice
  • putting

But my main issue is diet.

I need to be well behaved when it comes to calories in. Let’s see how I get on.
