Yesterday I met someone who had never Googled their own name. I was amazed because she’s a successful artist. You might think that she’d maybe like to see what articles were out there on the web.
That set me thinking about this website. Over the last month the Solar Polar website has changed and I’ve not really paid attention to any SEO simply because it’s not a priority here. This website is mainly a place for me to make notes and play on the web.
I was however aware that if I Googled my own name, Dave Walker, from google.co.uk, this website appeared on the front page. Now though, the site isn’t even on the first 15 pages (yeah… I checked through 15 pages!)
This is a little experiment to try and resolve it. Content is king when it comes to SEO and the phrase “Dave Walker” has loads of competition because it’s a very common name.
Steps to take
This site uses WordPress and since my change to a new theme and the addition of new plugins my name wasn’t in the header of the front page. I’ve now changed that back.
I’ve also stopped using any SEO plugins for WordPress.
I’ve also filled out a bio page specifically with a page name of dave-walker.
We’ll measure where we are then in 2 weeks on all major search engines and update the blog accordingly.
