Netgear DGND33000 Wireless Repeating
I now have two Netgear DGND33000 ADSL Modem/Routers and bought the same models because I know that Netgear supports a Wireless Repeating Mode.
This means that in my office I have one DGND33000 hardwired to my broadband line, and also sending out a wireless signal.
I also am using another DGND33000 in the main house which repeats the wireless signal to the house – providing a signal to laptops and games consoles as well as any smartphone going.

WordPress Login Problem with no error
Wordpress Login Problem with no error
Problem
WHen I log into WordPress I use the correct username and password, but the screen simply returns me to the login page without any error message.
Solutions
This is usually because my links in the wp_options table for siteurl are not correct. =C2=A0Ensure =
that it matches the exact url it should be. This happens mainly when I convert databases from one site to another.
e.g. //solarpolar.co.uk should be http://solarpolar.co.uk
Dave Walker Google search improved
Well since my last post about losing our status under Google search for “Dave Walker” I tweaked the website theme in WordPress and we’re again found on the first page in the UK.
Now that our WordPress theme is up and running properly, content should once more be king, so we’ll now target my home town of Malton, North Yorkshire.
Googling “Malton” on its own brings up many of the local business websites but Solar Polar doesn’t score highly at all and neither it should. I think by blogging about myself and the town goings on we can start to score in the top 5 pages within the month.
My aim therefore is to blog something everyday, and also fill up my portfolio page with some details to keep scoring high on both counts.
DNS problems
My ISP is branded AOL (but now they’re owned by Talk Talk). Of late I’ve had a fwe problems accessing some websites and at the same time I’ve changed my home router. All my fault I thought, so I changed my router back to the old one to get me up and running properly.
I was still having some problems, and then discovered that no email had been read for a day. I check the servers through my work VPN and they were ok. I checked them from my home pc.. not available. I could however PING the ip address successfully. That meant DNS problems, so I’m blaming my ISP.
To get around the problem I’m using OpenDNS servers and have set them up on my router so as not to have to change all device settings.

Note : OpenDNS : Nameservers are:
- 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
Soundcloud plugin error displaying value=\”always
This plugin is great but when I used it, it displayed value=\”always.
There’s a line break hidden in the code, line 94 of soundcloud-shortcode.php.
Just get to the end of the line, press delete to make the line no read:
“\”></param><param name=\”allowscriptaccess\” value=\”always\”></param><embed allowscriptaccess=\”always\” height=\”" .
Save it. Job done.
SEO experiment with Dave Walker on Google
Yesterday I met someone who had never Googled their own name. I was amazed because she’s a successful artist. You might think that she’d maybe like to see what articles were out there on the web.
That set me thinking about this website. Over the last month the Solar Polar website has changed and I’ve not really paid attention to any SEO simply because it’s not a priority here. This website is mainly a place for me to make notes and play on the web.

Dreamweaver CS4 CSS Copy and Paste Bug
Although Dreamweaver is a great tool it’s been a cause of frustration to me since bugs became more prevalent it seems, after Macromedia sold it to Adobe.
You’d imagine a high end web tool would be able to handle cut and pasting of CSS but to my eternal anger – it doesn’t!
It’s not just me who’s mad though. Andy has ranted too and also found a workaround by switching views. Thanks for that Andy!

Dell Latitude BIOS Password
I have a Dell Latitude E6500 and have been playing around with VMWare, trying to see if I can get Mac OS X installed as a virtual machine.
All was going well until it was highlighted that in most Dell machines there is a BIOS setting to enable Virtualisation mode, which by default is switched off.
When I rebooted to the BIOS settings I had an “unlock” icon which then required a password to do anything to the BIOS. Screwed!
This it seems is Dell’s own security which can be switched on and used for corporate means, but as laptops are sold on and owned by other folks these passwords can be left on the machines.
Obviously I googled around for a way around this problem – and there a heap of “paid for” solutions, where you supply your Dell service tag number, and they’ll supply the password for around $40.
But you get to thinking that if multiple people are making a buck out of this, then there must be a program they are using.
Then I found this post by Dogbert. It’s the program that circumvents the password security and supplies your BIOS password when you supply it with the Service tag. He’s also supplied the source code!
Kudos to him, rethink for Dell??? although the program is over a year old.

Killing a Remote Desktop Session
To remotely kill a crashed RDP session you need to log into the machine as an Administrator and…
Start-Programs-Administrative Tools -Terminal Services Manager. Right Click on the user and “Logoff”.
Simples.
View all registered OCX and DLLs
Now and again I have problems with registered .ocx and .dll files.
I found a program that will display and allow you to edit / register / unregister the files.
It’s called RegDllView and you can find it here. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registered_dll_view.html
Remember to run it as an Administrator if you’re using Windows 7.
